As the UK’s leading flooring distributor, Mercado has been supporting independent retailers, contractors and Buying Groups for over 100 years. That longevity is built on one simple principle: listening to their customers and evolving to meet their needs. 

Over the past two years, they’ve taken time to reconnect with their customers and Buying Group partners, gathering valuable feedback and insight. This has shaped how they move forward—ensuring that everything they do is focused on helping their customers succeed, from product choice to service and support.   

A key milestone in their journey came in 2024, when 32 local trading businesses were brought together to form one unified business. This created a stronger, nationwide sales team with a consistent, customer-first approach. For their Buying Group customers, it means easier access to expertise, improved service levels and a more collective experience.  

Building on this, 2025 marked the introduction of exclusive brands into the Mercado portfolio—an important step in delivering greater diversity to their customers. By combining trusted performance with design-led innovation, they’ve created a more comprehensive offering in one place. Buying Group members now benefit from increased depth and choice of stock, with access to highly sought-after brands including Kersaint Cobb, Telenzo, Manx Tomkinson and Kingsmead Carpets. The result is a product portfolio that enables their customers to confidently meet a wide range of consumer demands.  

Alongside these exclusive names, Crucial Trading continues to play a central role. With over 30 years of heritage, Crucial Trading is a brand that resonates strongly with both retailers and consumers, recognised for its high-quality natural floor coverings. For their customers, it represents a trusted, design-led solution that adds real value in-store.  

The Crucial Trading portfolio offers a versatile selection of wool, sisal, sisool and seagrass flooring, available across both carpets and rugs. Established favourites, including the award-winning Wool Mississippi and the popular Fabulous range, continue to perform strongly, while ongoing innovation ensures their customers always have something new to offer. 

Recent launches highlight their commitment to design and performance. The Avani range, introduced at the end of 2025, features two intricately woven flatweave styles—Panama and Herringbone—each available in seven contemporary decors. Durable and resilient, Avani is ideally suited to high-traffic areas, giving customers a practical yet stylish option.  

The Grace range has also been enhanced, with five new colourways complementing its existing designs. Made from 100% New Zealand wool, its 3-ply yarn delivers both durability and comfort, making it a reliable choice for busy homes.  

More recently, the Audrey range has added a bold, design-led edge to the collection. Featuring six distinctive striped decors, it brings warmth, texture and visual interest to interiors, while maintaining the natural performance benefits of wool.  

These ongoing developments reflect their continued focus on what matters most—supporting their partners and customers with the right products, the right service and the confidence to choose them every time.
